Overview of Basildon
The town of Basildon is located North East of Gatwick airport a distance of 50 miles that would take around 55 minutes by taxi via the M25 and A13. Basildon is in the county of Essex, though with central London only 25 miles away, it is a busy commuter town.
It was designated a 'New Town' after World War II, in 1948, to accommodate the London overspill, and was created from the conglomeration of four smaller villages (Pitsea, Laindon, Basildon and Vange), the new town took the name Basildon as it was the most central of the four villages. Due to its location and proximity to London it is no surprise that Basildon has a great transport network, including major road links, rail access and bus services.
Basildon Town Centre has many high street shops and coffee houses, with Eastgate Shopping Centre in easy walk also. You can also enjoy a relaxing stroll around the grounds of Wat Tyler Country Park or Gloucester Park. Though the more adventerous may like to try the Wakeboarding facility at Festival Park. Barleylands Farm Park, with Craft village and Playbarn is also located in the nearby town of Billericay
