Bedford is the county town of Bedfordshire and is also the administrative centre for the wider borough of Bedford. It has an estimated population of 79,190 residents; this was proposed by the county s council in 2005. The villages within the borough are particularly popular with the commuters to Bedford. These villages consist of Biddenham, Bromham, Clapham, Elstow, Oakley, Sharnbrook, Shortstown, Wilstead and Wooton.

Landmarks
Bedford s Principal church is St. Paul s Church its tall spire is one of the main features of the town. Another notable church is St. Peter s Church situated on St. Peter s Street. This church contains some of the oldest architectural remains in Bedford, the most ancient being the tow monoliths.
Tourism
Known for having one of the most superb riverside settings in the country you can enjoy the surrounding views from the Castle mound whilst looking over the River Ouse which passes through the town centre. You could also visit the Cecil Higgins art gallery which displays many pieces of artwork such as; watercolours, prints, drawings and ceramics plus many more.

Bedford s compact shopping centre is home to over 300 assorted shops from department stores to smaller retailers. The shopping centre is sure to keep you occupied for the whole day or even a weekend.
