Overview of Bletchley
The town of Bletchley is located Southwest of Stansted airport at a distance of 75 miles that would take around 1 hour 20 minutes by taxi via the M25 and M1. It is located in Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire and has a population of 33,950 according to 2011 statistics.
The history of the town can be traced back to the 12th Century, its anglo-saxon name means 'Blaeccas Clearing' and for many years existed as a Hamlet on the road between Fenny Stratford and Buckingham. From the Victorian times the town grew and eventually merged with nearby Fenny Stratford, new Industries emerged due to the establishment of the Grand Union Canal and the new transport links of the London and North Western Railway. During the 1960s many people were relocated to the town in an effort to manage the overspill from London and was part of the designated area of the New Town plan.
There are many things to do in Bletchley ranging from cultural activities, heritage sites and leisure facilities. The towns main shopping area in called Queensway named after Queen Elizabeth II who visited the town in 1966 and was named in her honour. Some other notable attractions include Bletchley Park Museum, the Blue Lagoon Nature Reserve, West Bletchley Sensory Garden, Woburn Safari Park and Woburn Abbey that dates back to 1145 and is set in a 3,000 acre deer park.
