Overview of Bolton
Bolton is a large town in greater Manchester situated 35.6 miles North east of liverpool Airport. The journey takes about 50 minutes by car in normal traffic conditions.
It can be accessed via two motorways the M62 and the M61 followed by the A666 which takes you into the centre. It is also sited just 20 minutes away from the centre of Manchester and about an hour away from the centre of Liverpool. Bolton is just 6 miles west of Bury, 11.5 miles east of Wigan, 10.3 miles north of Salford and 17.2 miles south of Blackburn.
Bolton was originally a small settlement in the moorland and was originally known as Boutlon Le Moors. It now has a population of 139,403 residents according to the census taken in 2001.
Bolton is notorious for their premiere league football team the Bolton wanderers FC. The Reebok stadium commonly known as the Reebok was completed in 1997 replacing the old grounds and has a seating capacity of 28,000.
Bolton is also recognized for its Octagon Theatre which originally opened in 1967 as Bolton Council Initiative. With a new design that broke away from the traditional theatre it set a trend for many new visitors. Over 135,00 people visit the theatre each year 25% of which are under 16. The auditorium seats up to 380 visitors which means they are never more than nine rows from the centre stage.
