Overview of Borehamwood

The town of Borehamwood is located Southwest of Stansted airport a distance of 39 miles that would take around 45 minutes by taxi via the M25. It is situated in Southern Hertfordshire and has a population of 28,546 according to the 2001 Census.

The town was part of the ancient parish of Elstree until 1909 and today they share a local council, Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council. The history of the area can be traced back to the Roman times when it was a centre for pottery and tile manufacture, situated on the Roman Road of Watling Street. In 1188 much of the older parts of the parish came into the possession of St Albans Abbey when it was known as Bosci di Borham. There are a number of buildings of historic interest in the village including the Holly Bush public house from the Medieval period, Schopwick Place c.1720, the Artichoke public house which is also from the eighteenth century. In 1914 the film Industry established production studios in the area and it soon became known as one of the main centres for Uk Film and television.

There are plenty of Cultural and leisure attractions in the town including Borehamwood Museum-detailing the local cinematic history, modern town centre with shopping centre, bars, pubs, restaurants and cafes, Venue Leisure Centre, Aberford Park and Meadow Park.
