Overview of Camberley

The town of Camberley is located North West of Gatwick airport a distance of 43 miles that would take around 50 minutes by taxi via the M25 and M3. It is located in Surrey and is close to the borders of Hampshire and Berkshire. Surrounding towns include Aldershot, Farnborough and Sandhurst. The town has a population of 30,155 as of 2008.

Before the establishment of the Royal Military College the area was known as Bagshot Heath a regular haunt for highway men and undeveloped due to soil conditions. The 'new town' grew up from the settlement around the college called Yorktown and it expanded to another area to the east that was known as Cambridge Town this being changed to Camberley to avoid confusion with the University town. The town grew in size with the introduction of the railway in the 19th century along with the belief that the pine trees in the area were beneficial to health attracting many visitors to the town as a result.

The town has a shopping centre called The Mall and the high street has shops, bars, clubs, cinema and Theatre. Places to go in the surrounding areas include Frimley Lodge Park, Farnborough Leisure Centre, Blackbushe Sunday Market and Surrey Heath Museum. The town is home to Collingwood College one of the largest in Surrey with over 2000 pupils and Kings International College is also located in the town.
