Overview of Cheshunt
The town of Cheshunt is located Southwest of Stansted airport a distance of 29 miles that would take around 35 minutes by taxi via the B181 and M25. It is located in the Borough of Broxbourne in Hertfordshire and has a population of 52,000 according to the 2001 Census.
The towns name comes from the old english name Cestrehunt which refers to a castle built by the Romans. It began as a settlement on the Roman road known as Ermine Street between London and Cambridge. The town is famously associated with Elizabeth I as the place that she lived as a princess. In 1825 the first monorail was created known as the Cheshunt Railway which was a horsedrawn carriage on rails that transported children to school, it was the first railway line to be built in Hertfordshire.
There are many things to see and do in the town such as the nearby Waltham Abbey, Lee Valley Park which has a watersports park and The Great Wood Country Park which has a wide range of wildlife and ideal place for birdwatchers and naturalists.
