Chichester is a thriving city surrounded with medieval walls that were built on the original Roman foundations. Many elements of the layout of the town remain from its Roman history, and there once was an impressive Amphitheatre, public Baths and Temples. In Fishbourne nearby, You can find remains of one of the largest domestic roman residences along with artifacts from archeological digs. Modernly the town is characteristically Georgian with attractive cottages and georgian brickwork. The city centre is pedestrianised and has many notable buildings and landmarks, the largest one being Chichester Cathedral. Others to walk to easily by foot are John Edes House, Market Cross, Pallant House and Guildhall. The town centre is laid out with the four main streets leading out from Market Cross at the centre, like a compass. The main shopping centre is the Boardwalk which has fashion, leisure, sports, beauty, cafes and restaurants. Nearby is the Festival Theatre for a good evenings entertainment of either a production, comedy, music or dance. Chichester Festival is held annually in the summertime over 17 days, and Goodwood, International sporting venue and Family home to the Earl of March is a popular visitor attraction. Chichester Canal is linked to Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and boat trips are available for part of the year. The surrounding hills and landscape of the South Downs countryside are good to explore either by foot or bicycle or you can take part in outdoor activities like horse riding or paragliding.

There are many other picturesque towns and villages to visit whilst in Chichester such as Midhurst, Petworth, Bosham, Selsey and the Witterings. All being on the South Coast which is officially the country's sunniest region. There are many beautiful places to stay with a variety of Restaurants, Inns, Pubs and Cafes to choose from.
