The town of Chipping Norton is located North East of Bristol airport a distance of 75 miles that would take around 1 hour and 37 minutes by taxi via the M5 and A436. Chipping Norton is a market town in the Cotswold Hills, in the county of Oxfordshire.
Chipping Norton began as a few houses with a church and castle at the bottom of the hill. Only the earthworks of the castle remain, but the church is a fine example of a 'wool church' enlarged by local merchants who grew rich on the profits of the Cotswold wool trade. A new market to promote trade was laid out in 1205, which formed the new town centre higher up the hill, where it still is today. Many of the original houses around the market place were rebuilt in the 18th century with fashionable 'Georgian' fronts. ' is at the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds' between Oxford and Banbury so we're easy to reach by road or rail. More recently Chipping Norton has become known as the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds' as it is between Oxford and Banbury making it very easy to reach by road or rail.
It's a great place to visit, with lovely pubs, tea rooms and restaurants surrounded by stunningly beautiful countryside. Use it as a base for local walks and for exploring nearby tourist attractions such as Stratford-upon-Avon, Blenheim Palace at Woodstock, Stow-on-the-Wold, The Rollright Stones and The Cotswolds.
