Overview of Fulham

The town of Fulham is located Southwest of Stansted airport a distance of 43 miles that would take around 1 hour by taxi via the M11. It is a situated in southwest London in the Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham and has a population of 165,242 according to the 2001 Census.

The area of Fulham lies on the north bank of the Thames, between Putney and Chelsea and is amongst some of the most expensive and fashionable places to live in London. It was named "Fulanhamme" after an anglo-saxon chief called Fulla and the history of the area has been traced back to over 5000 years with evidence showing that Neolithic people were living by the riverside and in other parts of the area. During the 18th Century Fulham was an area known for its gambling and prostitution and remained a working class area for the first half of the 20th Century.

There are plenty of things to do in and around Fulham for visitors such as Fulham Palace-the historic home of the Bishops of London, Fulham Football Club at Craven Cottage, Chelsea Harbour and The Thames Path. There are some major shopping areas such as Fulham Road and the New Kings Road where there is a good selection of small and specialist shops aswell as the popular Fulham Broadway Shopping Centre.
