Overview of Greenwich

The London Borough of Greenwich is located Northeast of Gatwick Airport a distance of around 43 miles a journey that would take around 50 minutes by taxi via the M23 and M25. It is an inner london borough and was formed in 1965 by the amalgamation of the metropolitan borough of Greenwich and Woolwich, it has a population of 255,500 according to 2011 statistics.

Greenwich is a south bank riverside area between the boroughs of Lewisham, Bexley and Bromley and consists of a large number of historical buildings, monuments and tourist attractions largely due to its strong maritime and Royal connections. It is home to Greenwich Mean Time and tourist hot-spots such as the Cutty Sark, National Maritime Museum, the Royal Observatory, the O2 Arena and Sir Christopher Wrens Old Royal Naval College. There are plenty of ways to enjoy the highlights in Greenwich with riverside pubs, shopping at Greenwich Market, boat trips into the city centre from Greenwich Pier or a walk around Greenwich Park.

The borough is comprised of the neighbourhoods of Abbey Wood, Northern area of Blackheath, Charlton, Eltham, Horn Park, Kidbrooke, New Eltham, Plumstead, Shooters Hill and Woolwich. Other highlights in the area include Eltham Palace, Well Hall Pleasaunce and the Tudor Barn, Charlton House-one of the finest examples of Jacobean architecture in the country, the Royal Artillery Museum and the Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park.
