Overview of Haringey

The London Borough of Haringey is located Southeast of Luton Airport a distance of around 32 miles a journey that would take around 45 minutes by taxi via the M1. It is situated in Northern London and shares borders with six other london boroughs Enfield, Waltham Forest, Hackney, Islington, Camden, and Barnet. It has a population of 255,500 according to 2011 statistics.

Haringey was named after an old Saxon Chief called 'Haeringes', its history can be traced back to the times when prehistoric settlements existed by the River Lee, Roman occupation and the Anglo-Saxons. The borough was founded by the combining of the Municipal boroughs of Hornsey, Wood Green and Tottenham that had all been previously part of Middlesex, these former divisions can still be seen with the relative prosperity of the different parts of the borough still split broadly along the old boundary lines. The borough has achieved Green Flag status for eight of its parks which is the highest awarded to any London borough some of these include Bruce Castle Park Tottenham; Priory Park Hornsey; Stationers Park Hornsey and Railway Fields local nature reserve, there are three over ground rivers - The River Moselle, The New River and the River Lea.

It has some prosperous areas such as Highgate, Crouch End and Musewell Hill and the landmarks of Bruce Castle-16th century manor house in Tottenham and Alexandra Palace which is the last Victorian Exhibition Hall still standing in Europe and hosts many national events, and is the birthplace of television.
