Overview of Harrow

The London Borough of Harrow is located North of Gatwick airport a distance of 53 miles that would take around 1 hour 10 minutes by taxi via the M25. Situated in Northwest London it borders Hertfordshire to the North and the London boroughs of Hillingdon, Ealing, Brent and Barnet and has a population of 240,500 according to 2011 statistics.

In 1965 the borough was formed when the area was transferred to Greater London from Middlesex and it resulted in being uniquely the only London borough to replicate exactly the unchanged boundaries of a single former district. Some of the districts that form the borough include Belmont, Harrow on the Hill, Hatch End, Kenton, North Harrow, Pinner, Rayners Lane, Stanmore and Wealdstone. The borough attracts commuters due to rising house prices and the good connections into the city, families are also attracted to the leafier character of the suburb and its close proximity to the green belt. Much regeneration has been done to the existing Edwardian and 1920s to 1940s housing stock which furthers its attraction in the housing market.

It is a diverse borough with a multi-cultural character and Since 2005, on the last Sunday in June Harrow Council hosts Under One Sky - Harrow's largest festival, to celebrate and the joint communities of Harrow. It has a good educational record and is well known for Harrow School situated at Harrow on the Hill which was officially founded by John Lyon under a Royal Charter of Elizabeth I in 1572. It has educated a number of prime ministers, statesmen and royalty including Winston Churchill, Robert Peel and Jawaharlal Nehru.
