Overview of Islington

The London Borough of Islington is located East of Heathrow airport a distance of 21 miles that would take around 35 minutes by taxi via the M4 and A4. It is situated in Inner London and has a population of 206,100 according to 2011 Statistics. Its neighbouring boroughs are Camden, Hackney, Haringey and the City of London.

Situated in North London it is home to Arsenal Football Club and some areas are now fashionable places to live due to the gentrification of some of the old Victorian town houses. There are two prisons within its boundaries HM Prison Pentoville and HM Holloway for women, aswell as the Universities of City University and London Metropolitan University resulting in a high student population. A lively area that attracts many tourists and visitors is The Angel, Upper Street and Essex Road which has many art galleries, gift shops, Antique shops, cafes and restaurants. Some other places that would interest shoppers and restaurants goers would be Highgate and the Finsbury Park Area which with its multicultural community there is a diverse range of international cuisines to try.

There are over 100 Parks and Open spaces in the area and has many cultural Venues such as Business Design Centre, O2 Academy Islington, Union Chapel and The Old Queens Head. Regents Canal is a lovely place to get some peace away from the bustling and vibrant streets and further on in Clerkenwell is an area rich in history, formerly known as 'Little Italy' due the large Italian community that lived there from the 1850s to the 1960s.
