The London Borough of Kingston upon Thames is located North of Gatwick airport a distance of 24 miles that would take around 35 minutes by taxi via the M23 and M25. It is located in southwest London and has a population of 160,400 according to 2011 statistics.

It is the oldest of the four Royal boroughs in england, its history can be traced back to the Roman times with many relics being found in the area and was the site of seven Anglo-Saxon Kings, and the coronation stone is said to mark the spot where this would take place which stands outside the local council offices of the Guildhall. After the Norman conquest in 1066 Kingston Upon Thames lost much of its importance and the coronations stopped taking place there, but during the 12th century it started to flourish as a town. Largely a farming community the inhabitants kept sheep for wool and fished for salmon in the Thames.

The main districts in the borough include Alexandra, Berrylands, Chessington, Coombe, Hook, Kingston upon Thames, Kingston Vale, Malden Rushett, Motspur Park, New Malden, Norbiton, Old Malden, Seeting Wells, Surbiton and Tolworth. The borough contains a large number of parks, sports grounds and open spaces including Hogsmill Valley Walk, Beverley Park, the University of London Athletic Ground and Motspur Park.
