Overview of Letchworth
The town of Letchworth is located Northeast of Heathrow Airport a distance of 48 miles that would take around 55 minutes by taxi via the M25. It is situated in Hertfordshire and is officially called Letchworth Garden City and has a populatin of 32745 according to the 2001 Census.
The town was founded in 1903 by the social reformer Ebenezer Howard who had invisioned this new town to incorporate elements of the country alongside city life. Its development inspired the other Garden City project of Welwyn Garden City. With the Railway station opening in 1903 and this brought people to the area to marvel at the social experiment, the people that would settle there were in hope for a better quality of life.
There are plenty of things to do when staying in Letchworth Garden City such as Standalone Farm, the First Garden City Heritage Museum and Letchworth GC's Outdoor Pool. In the town centre there are specialist shops, Restaurants, Cinema, two museums, art centre and farmers markets. There are a number of open spaces and footpaths and the Garden City Greenway is a circular 13.6 mile route great for a country walk or cycle ride.
