Overview of Mold
The town of Mold is located Northwest of Heathrow Airport a distance of 200 miles that would take around 3 hours 40 minutes by taxi via the M40 and M42. It is situated in Flintshire, North Wales on the River Alyn and has a population of 9,568 according to the 2001 Census.
The town grew up around Mold Castle that was built by Robert De Montalt in 1140. The area was inhabited during the Bronze Age proven by the discovery of a Bronze Age golden cape in 1833 dated to be from 1900-1600 BC. The Normans founded Bailey Hill at the top end of the town and a motte and bailey castle once stood there, it is said that many bloody skirmishes took place there before the Edwardian Conquest of Wales.
The town is one of the main town areas in the county of Flintshire and actively seeks to preserve its lifestyle that goes back centuries. Many visitors take advantage of mountain walks in the Clwydian Range and open air markets. Other attractions include the Theatr Clwyd, Loggerheads an area of outstanding natural beauty and Moel Fammau the highest peak in the Clwydian Range.
