Overview of Norwich

The town of Norwich is located Northeast of Heathrow Airport a distance of 140 miles that would take around 2.5 hours by taxi via the M25 and M11. It is situated in Norfolk on the River Wensum and has a population of 135,100 according to 2010 Statistics.

The Romans settled in the area on the River Tas 5 miles from where Norwich is today, and when the Anglo Saxons came to the area they founded both the towns of Northwic and Westwic. The Vikings had a strong cultural influence on the city towards the end of the 9th Century and by the time of the Norman Conquest the city was one of the largest in England. The wealth of the town was generated through the wool trade during the Middle Ages and many medieval churches were built during this time.

There are many places of interest in the city, and there is a large student population due to it being home to the University of East Anglia. Other popular tourist attractions include Norwich Castle Museum, Norwich Cathedral, The Guildhall and the University of East Anglia Norwich Arts Centre. The city has become a centre for science, commerce, culture and the arts and has a rich history.
