Overview of Nottingham

The town of Nottingham is located North of Heathrow Airport a distance of 130 miles that would take around 2 hours and 20 minutes by taxi via the M1. It is situated in the county of Nottinghamshire in the East Midlands and has a population of 306,700 according to 2010 Statistics.

The history of the city can be traced back to the Anglo Saxon times when it was ruled by a chieftain called Snot and the settlement became known as 'Snotingaham'. By the 15th Century the town was trading and exporting religious sculpture made from alabaster. During the industrial revolution Nottingham prosperred in the textile industry and became a centre for Lace making.

There are many attractions in the city including a large number of historical buildings from different eras often side by side and some of the pubs in the city date back to the 12th century. There are many Art Gallerys and Museums to choose from aswell as shopping centres and malls. Some popular tourist attractions include Sherwood Forest, Nottingham Castle, City of Caves, Lace Market, The Galleries of Justice and Wollaton Park.
