Overview of Oundle
The town of Oundle is located North of Heathrow Airport a distance of 98 miles that would take around 1 hour 45 minutes by taxi via the M1. It is situated in Northamptonshire on the River Nene and has a population of 5,800 according to 2010 Statistics.
The town has been inhabited since the Iron Age and it began as a trading place and market for local farmers and craftsmen. The town is largely made up of historic buildings, inns, churches and alleyways. Many of the Inns in the town were used by travellers stopping for refreshment on stage coach journeys, one of the oldest pubs that was popular in these times was The Ship Inn. The town managed to escape the effects of the Black-Death in the mid 14th century unlike some of the settlements nearby.
There are many attractions in Oudle for visitors as there are many historical buildings and landmarks such as the Church of St Peter its Spire being visible for miles around. Places of interest in the surrounding towns and areas include Barnwell Country Park, Southwick Hall, Brigstock Country Park and Rockingham Castle.
