Overview of Rickmansworth
The town of Rickmansworth is located North of Heathrow Airport a distance of 17 miles that would take around 25 minutes by taxi via the A4007. It is situated in Hertfordshire and has a population of 14,571 according to the 2001 Census. The name is derived from the Saxon name 'Ryckmer' a local magnate and 'Worth' meaning stockade.
Rickmansworth was one of five local manors that belonged to the Abbey of St Albans when it was founded by King Offa. The famous Cardinal Wolsey was the Abbot of St Albans whereby he held the Manor of le More in the valley nearby. The three rivers within the perimeter of the town which are the River Gade, Chess and Colne once helped industries such as corn milling, silk weaving, paper making and brewing.
There are many things to do in the town and surrounding areas and countryside of Hertfordshire. Some attractions include the Aquadrome Local Nature Reserve, Batchworth Lake, Rickmansworth Golf Course, Chenies Manor House and Watersmeet.
