Overview of Tring

The town of Tring is located North of Heathrow Airport a distance of 33 miles that would take around 40 minutes by taxi via the M40 and M25. It is situated in the Chiltern Hills in Hertfordshire and has a population of 11,635 according to the 2001 Census.

The town is positioned in West Hertfordshire next to the Buckinghamshire border at a low point of the Chiltern Hills known as the Tring gap, and has been used as a crossing point since ancient times. In the Domesday book it was known as the Manor of Truenga, in 1682 the manor in Tring Park was designed by Sir Christopher Wren and in the late 19th Century was home to the Rothschild Family. The 2nd Lord Rothschild released the edible dormouse into Tring Park and would ride through the town in a Zebra drawn carriage, the image of the Zebra has been the towns symbol. Today the town is home to Heygates Flour Mill and Tring Brewery.

There are many places of interest in Tring such as The Natural History Museum at Tring which was the private museum of 2nd Baron Rothschild, The Church of St Peter and St Paul, The Tring Reservoirs, The Court Theatre, Charter Market & Farmers Market and the beauty of the Chiltern Hills and Grand Union Canal.
