Overview of Wellingborough

The town of Wellingborough is located North of Heathrow Airport a distance of 71 miles that would take around 1 hour 20 minutes by taxi via the M25 and M1. It is situated in Northamptonshire on the north side of the River Nene and has a population of 75,400 according to the 2011 Census.

The Town was founded in the 6th Century by a Saxon leader called 'Waendel' which is incorporated into the modern name used today. All Hallows Church is the oldest building in the town dating back to 1160 and the manor belonged to Crowland Abbey in Loncolnshire. In Elizabethan times the Lord of the Manor, Sir Christopher Hatton was a sponsor of Sir Frances Drake's Expeditions. In the early 19th Century the towns made trades were in corn, shoe and boot making and Iron Smelting.

There are many interesting places to visit in Wellingborough and surrounding areas and villages such as Wellingborough Museum, Church of St Mary the Virgin, Irchester Narrow-gauge Railway Museum, Irchester Country Park, Wollaston Museum, Sywell Country Park and the Church of All Saints Earls Barton.
