Overview of Worthing

The town of Worthing is located South of Heathrow airport a distance of 64 miles that would take around 1 hour 20 minutes by taxi via the M25 and A24. It is situated at the foot of the South Downs in West Sussex and has a population of around 103,200 according to 2010 statistics.

The history of the town as a settlement can be traced back to the Stone Ages which would have been around 60,000 years ago. The town was at the centre of the most important flint mining industry in the country. When the saxons lived there they made Highdown Hill their burial ground where many valuable artefacts have been found that were buried with their ancestors. Until the 17th Century Worthing was an agricultural and fishing hamlet for centuries, when Princess Amelia visited in 1798 this marked the beginning of the town being a popular holiday location for the fashionable and wealthy.

There are many visitor attractions and things to do while staying in Worthing such as Lancing College Chapel, High Salvington Windmill and Worthing Pier. There are many open spaces and parks to enjoy in and around the town and each year it hosts the annual Worthing Festival which has open air concerts and a fairground along the promenade.
