The town of Leicester is located North West of Gatwick airport a distance of 139 miles that would take around 2 hours 25 minutes by taxi via the M25 and M1. Leicester has a population of 280,000, and is the largest city in the East Midlands and the tenth largest in the country. It has a diverse mixture of industries from commercial to industrial.It was originally a Roman settlement and was recorded in the Doomsday book. Engineering is a major part of the Leicester industry, as is food and drink. Walkers crisps currently makes 10 million bags of crisps per day at two factories in Beaumont Leys, and is the UK's largest grocery brand.In May 2007 Leicester was voted 'Curry Capital of Britain 2007', and many Indian food manufacturers have their head quarters in the region.

Leicester is also the '2008 European City of Sport' and boasts many well regarded clubs, such as; Leicester Tigers (rugby union),Leicester City F.C. (football), Leicester Riders (basketball), Leicester Coritanian A.C. (Athletics), and the Leicestershire County Cricket Club. The council were very keen to keep green spaces in the area, and so Leicester has many parks to break up the urbanisation. These include;Abbey Park, Botanic Garden, Victoria Park, Gorse Hill City Farm, Castle Gardens, Grand Union Canal, River Soar, Watermead Country Park.
