The town of Leighton Buzzard is located north of Gatwick airport a distance of 79 miles that would take around 1 hour 29 minutes by taxi via the M25 and A41. Leighton Buzzard is in the county of Bedfordshire, near the Chiltern Hills and lying between Luton and Milton Keynes.

The towns name is likely derived from Old English language Leah-tun, meaning 'farm in a clearing in the woods'. The "Buzzard" was added by the Dean of Lincoln, in whose diocese the town lay in the 12th century. He had two communities called Leighton in his parish and wished to differentiate between the two, so he added the town's local representative's name to the town, this man being called Theobald de Busar and so over the years the town became known as Leighton Buzzard. Leighton Buzzard is also famous as the Grand Union Canal was opened there. More recently, Leighton Buzzard station was the location for part of the film Robbery, based on the so-called "Great Train Robbery" (1963), while the actual robbery took place just outside of the town, at Bridego bridge, Ledburn.

The Leighton Buzzard Railway is one of the last surviving 2 foot guage light railways left in Britain. Once used to transport sand and other industrial items, today passengers can enjoy a trip down memory lane, by taking a 70 minute journey on the Railways Steam powered passenger train. Canal boat cruises and pleasure boat rides can also be found along the Grand Union Canal.
