Overview of Rochford
The town of Rochford is located North East of Gatwick airport a distance of 61 miles that would take around 1 hour 19 minutes by taxi via the M25 and A13. Rochford is 21miles from the county town of Chelmsford, in Essex.
Rochford takes its name from Rochefort, Old English for Ford of the Hunting Dogs. Rochford is a historic Market Town with its Town Centre containing many listed buildings, and the Market Square which in days gone by used to host the local livestock market. Today, the Tuesday market continues, although not with livestock. Southend Airport was known as RAF Rochford during the second world war, and much of the land of the airport falls within the Parish of Rochford.
There are many local landmarks, including The Lawn, which is an 18th century mansion, Rochford Hall, the one time home to Anne Bolyn and her family, St Andrews Church, and the Old House in South Street, which dates back to the 13th century.
