Overview of Shere

The village of Shere is located West of Gatwick airport a distance of 29 miles that would take around 38 minutes by taxi via the M23 and A264. The village is located in the county of Surrey, Shere is also a civil parish, consisting of the villages of Shere, Gomshall, Holmbury St. Mary and Peaslake, the total population is: 3,359.

It is a small village with many traditional English features. It has a small central cluster of old village houses, shops including a blacksmith and trekking shop, tea house, art gallery, two pubs and a Norman-era church. Shere has a museum which opens most afternoons at weekends. The Tillingbourne stream runs through the centre of the village.

Because of its stereotypically English setting, Shere has proven popular as a film location, with films such as Bridget Jones:The Edge of Reason (2004), The Wedding Planner (2005) and The Holiday (2006) being filmed here.
