The London Borough of Sutton is located Southwest of London City airport a distance of 22 miles that would take around 50 minutes by taxi via the A1011 and A102. It is located in South London and forms part of outer London, it has a population of 191,100 according to 2011 statistics.
The borough is still sometimes referred to as being located in Surrey but in 1965 it became one of the 33 London Boroughs with the merging of the boroughs of Sutton and Cheam, Beddington and Wallington and Carshalton Urban District which had previously been part of Surrey. Its history can be traced back to the Roman Times which can be seen with the number of important roads that exist within its boundaries aswell as archeological sites of interest. The area had been comprised of rural villages involved in farming and agriculture and during the Victorian times other industries emerged with the River Wandle being utilised for the many mills that were operating at the time and the first Sutton gas works was built in 1856 and the railway station was opened in 1847 when the West Croydon to Epsom line was built and they were used in transporting passengers and goods.

The borough has 89 parks and open spaces to visit and Sutton Ecology Centre where visitors can find out about wildlife habitats, alternative energy, recycling, composting, and organic gardening.
