Overview of Truro

The city of Truro is located South West of Gatwick airport a distance of 270 miles that would take around 4 hours 51 minutes by taxi via the M25, M3, M5 and A303. Trurois in the county of Cornwall and at the time of the 2001 census had a population of 17,431. It is the only city in Cornwall.

Truro initially grew as an important centre of trade from its port and then as a stannary town for the mining industry. All tin was taxed by the Earl from 1337, it was brought to one of five Stannary Towns and assayed. The Earl's due was then chipped from each ingot of Tin before the metal was shipped. Today, Truro is a business and administrative centre. Shopping is the best in Cornwall and the city is well known for its cathedral (completed in 1910), cobbled streets, open spaces and Georgian architecture.
