Overview of Wandsworth
The London Borough of Wandsworth is located North of Gatwick airport a distance of 32 miles that would take around 50 minutes by taxi via the M23. It is located in South-West London and has a population of 307,700 according to 2011 statistics.
The borough was formed with the merging of Battersea, Wandsworth excluding Clapham and most of Streatham. It is comprised of the districts of Balham, Battersea, Earlsfield, Furzedown, Nine Elms, Putney, Putney Heath, Putney Vale, Roehampton, Southfields, Streatham Park, Tooting, Tooting Bec, Wandsworth and West Hill. It is thought that Wandsworth got its name from a tribe of sea-raiders from the Continent called the Wendels which is suggested the towns Coat of Arms. There are three Metropolitan Open Spaces in the borough Battersea Park, Wandsworth Common and Tooting Commons.
