The town of Watford is located North of Gatwick airport a distance of 59 miles that would take around 1 hour 5 minutes by taxi via the M25. It is situated in Hertfordshire and according to statistics of 2006 has a population of 79,600.
During the 11th Century the town was smaller than the larger and more important settlements such as Cashio and St Albans, but by being located on the through route of trade going to these towns this helped the town to expand and flourish. Watford was an agricultural community for many centuries until the Industrial Revolution, bringing the Grand Union Canal in 1798 and the London & Birmingham Railway in 1837.
